Zoo trip!

Charlie got to go to the zoo for the first time! Adrian has been before but it's been a few years (before Charlie was born) and he didn't even remember, so you could count this as his "first" time too. Both of them LOVED the aquarium. We stayed in there probably 45 minutes. Me and Charlie's nurse took turns holding her up so she could see the fish swim around. They both got to touch some crustaceans. The polar bears were hamming it up for the crowd so that was fun. Charlie didn't seem like she could even see the polar bears at first. I don't know if it was because of the sun or what. Finally she focused on one of them and smiled. So I know she got to see them. I took Adrian up to see the lions, but it was very crowded so Charlie's nurse decided to wait for us at the bottom of the ramp. When we went down to find her, she had found a little hidey-hole where you could peek in and see the lions REALLY well! So we got a good view without the crowd. The monkeys and gorillas were fun, as always.

Some more crazy Charlie hair:

Passed out after the zoo!

Playing with Grandma's cat...he plays back!

And Adrian lost 3 teeth in the last week!

What a great trip and such fun pics! Looks like everyone had a ball.

I got your post on A's blog BTW. They have adaptive toilets in Amelia's school that are a little toilet with a seat back and straps. I'm sure you could find one that Charlie could use. It's another thing to do with her that she can feel like a big girl! Amelia's nurse at school is the one who jumpstarted the whole thing, not sure I would have been this ambitious so quickly! Thanks also for telling me about that other family you know. Gives me encouragement!!!

Hey, what kind of booster do you have Adrian in? We have our middle kid in an Evenflo Bolero with the harness, but I just realized at 44lbs he's not technically supposed to be in the harness. I know up in Canada they are rated for 65 lbs. I don't know if they are made exactly the same or not though. Our 4 yo still falls asleep everytime he's in the car, so I hate to move him to a belt. DD who is six uses a belt, but she's very good at keeping it positioned properly.

It's a cosco (safety 1st) apex. I borrowed it from a friend until I have a better car set-up. It goes to 65 lbs. The top slots are about 17". It does need to require that the child have head support behind the seat though, so it *may* not work if you don't have headrests. Head support is required to the tips of the ears. The evenflo maestro is $75 has 18" top slots but only has a 50 lb weight limit, so may not work for you for long. The graco nautilus has 18.5" top slots and a 65 lb limit and they tend to run $160 or so. That's probably your best bet, economically. The apex runs about $110, but it's hard to find in stores. Really, the nautilus is your best bet if you can swing it.
