HBOT

Recently I've been researching Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Charlie.

I've heard some great things about it and it sounds like it certainly can't hurt. It's pretty expensive and we'd have to travel to do it, but the more I think about it, the more I believe we can make this happen. I'd like to try to get a round of treatments in before Charlie is a year old. They say the sooner the better and I think this is a reasonable goal.

I've actually had a very generous offer from another HIE parent to stay with her and use her personal chamber. I'm not sure how things are going to work out yet, but it's nice to have options. :-)

Here's a youtube video of what HBOT did for one young man:

I assume that this doctor chose his most successful patient to show what HBOT can do, so I'm certainly not expecting this drastic of results, but I'm hoping it can help her at least some. So far, I'm hearing that it helps with seizures and alertness, both of which Charlie is struggling with!

I just wanted to mention that there is a doctor here in Columbus that has HBOT available in his office for kids with autism. He's a DAN doctor, if you know what that is....I can find out his name if you'd like, I think it's Dr. DeMeo or DeMio and he's in Cols. a few days per month. I've heard it runs about $100 per HBOT session, but you wouldn't have to travel to do it.

I have a friend who is taking her mother here...and there have been improvements already! She loves it here!

My daughter has been doing mild HBOT for about a month now. I've seen dramatic improvements with her cognitively but it hasn't improved her hypotonia much. It is easier to turn off parts of the brain than to turn them on if that makes any sense.
You might also look in to stem cells if you banked her cord blood. Duke does them here in the US with the childs own banked blood.

This blog post nicely explains the importance of HBOT in the treatment of different health conditions. You can also get complete information on HBOT from Dr. Shai Efrati. Thanks
