....when I don't put her hair in a ponytail. I thought I'd give her poor little head a break. Those tiny little rubber bands hold her hair so tight! But I spent ALL day brushing her hair out of her eyes! Why can't they make something in-between? Something not as tight as the little rubber bands, but not as loose as the barrettes? And yes, I've tried EVERY style of barrette out there, including the velcro ones. If you have ideas, let me know!

As a mommy to another October 07 baby I hear you. Those tiny elastics are tight and a major pain to get in. We use the small knit elastics in multiple colors when we need a hair elastic break. You still have to twist them around 4 or 5 times but they aren't as tight as the little clear/colored elastics. They don't hold as well either but they hold better then barrettes. They work just great at getting the hair out of the eyes. Also try doing more then one or placing them off to the side or back for some variation.
How about headbands? We bought some that are elastic all the way around at the drugstore (Goody I think). Mind you, Isabelle is 4 and has a huge head, but you could shorten them too.
Aw, she's so cute.
Can't help you on the hair though. We have the same problem with Lily. As you can see from my most recent post (www.mathisphotos.blogpsot.com), that's how we style her hair when she needs a ponytail break.
I found a person to make her a headscarf and headband in the microcephaly sizes, but she just moves her head too much and they come off.
I'll have to look for the knit elastic bands. I always try to move her ponytail. Sometimes I just do it off to the side or further back...other times I do one on each side. We have like 9 headbands but they kind of make her look like a punk and they don't stay put. But I haven't tried them in months...maybe I will see if they work better now.
what about snap clips??
here is what they TYPICALLY would look like

(for elastic headbands (great suggestion, michelle), even our dollar store has nice ones (Dollar General) that are inexpensive, too.
I would try the little lobster style (also called butterfly) clips. The little ones. Just a thought :)
